In the second week of September, our children at Trillium Montessori explored science in action through an engaging Apple Science Experiment. With apple slices and everyday liquids like lemon juice, water, vinegar, baking soda water, and milk, the classroom transformed into a lively science lab.
The children made predictions about what would happen to each slice, then watched closely as the apples changed over time. Excitement grew as they noticed how some slices browned while others stayed fresh. The moment they saw the apple slice in lemon juice remain unchanged became a favorite discovery of the day.
This simple activity opened the door to conversations about chemical reactions and preservation while also encouraging careful observation and critical thinking. The children practiced making predictions, testing ideas, and drawing conclusions; all while having fun with a familiar fruit.
