Build a Heart

Throughout February, the Trillium Montessori classrooms were ablaze with creativity and exploration. Our little builders, artists, and scientists gathered around tables fitted with a multitude of fascinating materials, their small fingers eager to start crafting.

Our event of the month, the “Build a Heart” project, sparked excitement and curiosity among our young learners. Satisfying our mission to “Learn. Grow. Succeed.”, this project drew on the innovative approach of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) integrated within the Montessori philosophy.

The hands-on nature of the task allowed our teachers to step back and encourage independence, in line with our core value of Individualized Learning. Children weren’t just given a template to follow. Instead, they were given a problem to solve: How would they construct a heart shape from the supplies provided: pipe cleaners, clay, or construction paper?

Some children carefully bent pipe cleaners into a heart outline. Others pressed their pieces of clay or construction paper, sculpting or cutting them into the desired shape. The whole process laid the foundation for basic engineering concepts and strengthened their fine motor skills while stoking their imagination—a perfect example of Trillium’s union of Montessori and STEAM education.

By inviting our children to engage in this creative building project, we emphasized our commitment to Lifelong Learning, one of our core values. This “Build a Heart” project was a reminder that education is a fun and exciting journey, not a destination. We believe that with the right guidance, every child can learn, grow, and succeed, just as our mission statement promises.

The children were thrilled with their creations and felt a strong sense of achievement that comes from seeing a project from concept to completion. Parents, it was heartwarming to see the delight in your child’s eyes as they proudly presented their unique heart-shaped creations. Their beaming faces showcased their confidence, another value we hold dear at Trillium.

We’re grateful for your continuous support and trust in Trillium Montessori’s approach. Together, we hope to continue creating enriching experiences that nurture your child’s Independence and instill a love for Lifelong Learning.
