Floating Ghosts and Curious Minds: A Halloween Science Experiment

Last week, our students took part in a hands-on science experiment that brought some spooky fun into the classroom: the Static Electricity Ghost!

Using tissue paper, balloons, and a bit of curiosity, our students created little floating ghosts. After rubbing their balloons on hair or clothing to generate static electricity, they held them near the tissue ghosts to watch them rise and move without touching them.

Laughter and wonder filled the room as our young scientists explored how invisible forces can create motion. They asked questions, made observations, and connected what they saw to real scientific ideas, all while enjoying a festive, Halloween-themed activity.

Experiments like these help build early excitement around science. Our teaching team designs simple yet meaningful moments that let students explore the world through hands-on discovery. The Static Electricity Ghost was a great way to celebrate fall and spark new curiosity in our classrooms.

Celebrating Language and Culture: The Spanish Program at Trillium Montessori

At Trillium Montessori, language is a doorway to discovery. Our Spanish Program gives children early exposure to the sounds, rhythms, and stories of a world language. This is more than learning words. Each session opens a space for curiosity, expression, and joyful connection.

Guided by our experienced Spanish teacher, children explore:

  • Storytelling with visuals and props that spark imagination
  • Songs and rhythms that build memory and pattern recognition

These experiences connect with the Montessori method by engaging the senses, encouraging repetition, and allowing children to absorb language naturally during the sensitive period for language learning. The program enriches communication skills and fosters cultural awareness while strengthening focus, listening, and confidence.

When children share a Spanish song with friends or retell a story at home, they carry forward both knowledge and delight. For our families, these are lasting reminders that language learning can be woven into daily life with joy.

We are proud to celebrate the continued success of our Spanish Program and the growth it brings to our children. Trillium remains committed to nurturing the whole child through meaningful, hands-on experiences that prepare them for a global community.

The Moving Hand: A STEAM Project Full of Discovery

Our students recently explored a hands-on STEAM activity that combined engineering, anatomy, and plenty of excitement: building a “Moving Hand.”

With help from our creative teaching team, the children traced and cut out cardboard hand shapes, attached straws to represent bones, and threaded string to simulate tendons. When they pulled the strings, the cardboard fingers bent and moved, showing how muscles and joints work together to make our hands move. The classrooms buzzed with focus and joy as students watched their projects come to life.

This activity gave our students a fun way to learn about the human body while practicing fine motor skills, problem-solving, and perseverance. They were proud to show off their moving hands, and even prouder to explain how they worked.

Our teachers are always looking for creative ways to bring science to life, and this activity did just that.

All About Me: Celebrating Our Children’s Stories

This September, our classrooms at Trillium Montessori came alive with the “All About Me” project. Our children created posters filled with drawings, photos, and favorite memories that told their stories. Each piece of work reflected their personalities and interests, from a love of ice cream to treasured family traditions.

Project Highlights

  • Children carefully designed their posters with drawings, photos, and decorations.
  • During circle time, each child shared their poster with classmates, speaking with pride and confidence.
  • The classroom walls are now filled with these colorful stories, reminding us of the joy that comes from learning about one another.

Why It Matters
The “All About Me” project gave children a chance to express themselves, build confidence, and strengthen friendships. It also provided our families with a window into the stories that matter most to their children.

We celebrate the creativity and courage of our students and the supportive environment that made this project so special.

Apple Science Sparks Curiosity at Trillium Montessori

In the second week of September, our children at Trillium Montessori explored science in action through an engaging Apple Science Experiment. With apple slices and everyday liquids like lemon juice, water, vinegar, baking soda water, and milk, the classroom transformed into a lively science lab.

The children made predictions about what would happen to each slice, then watched closely as the apples changed over time. Excitement grew as they noticed how some slices browned while others stayed fresh. The moment they saw the apple slice in lemon juice remain unchanged became a favorite discovery of the day.

This simple activity opened the door to conversations about chemical reactions and preservation while also encouraging careful observation and critical thinking. The children practiced making predictions, testing ideas, and drawing conclusions; all while having fun with a familiar fruit.

At Trillium Montessori, we love creating opportunities like this that bring science to life. Every experiment helps our students grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity, building a foundation for lifelong learning.

We invite our families to try this experiment at home. With just a few apple slices and common liquids, children can continue exploring science in a hands-on way and share their discoveries with you.

Magnet Art Sparks Creativity and Discovery at Trillium Montessori

At Trillium Montessori, science and art often come together to spark wonder. During the first week of September, our children explored both through a hands-on STEAM activity called Magnet Art.

Using magnets beneath a sheet of paper, the children guided paint-dipped paper clips and other small magnetic items to create colorful designs. As the pieces moved, swirls and patterns emerged, filling each page with unique artwork. Along the way, the children grew curious about the invisible pull that made the materials move, leading to thoughtful conversations about the science of magnetism.

This activity gave our students the chance to strengthen fine motor skills, solve problems in creative ways, and experience discovery through play. The joy on their faces as they revealed their finished artwork captured the spirit of learning at Trillium Montessori.

We encourage our families to try simple magnetic activities at home. Every opportunity to explore these invisible forces helps children stay curious, imaginative, and engaged with the world around them.

Our Teachers Trained to Keep Kids Safe: Staff Training Day Highlights at Trillium Montessori

On August 29, Trillium Montessori closed for the day so our teachers could focus on training that keeps our classrooms safe and supportive. This day was a chance for our team to grow their skills and strengthen the care they provide every day.

Training focused on essential topics like emergency preparedness, food allergies, medication handling, and injury prevention. Teachers walked through real safety scenarios and practiced how to respond. These hands-on lessons build confidence and prepare our team for any situation.

Positive guidance strategies were also a key part of the day. Teachers explored how to create calm, nurturing classrooms with clear boundaries and warm interactions. These tools help every child thrive.

Even during a serious training day, our team found time to connect. A shared lunch break gave everyone a moment to relax and enjoy being together.
