Valentine’s Day Party

With the month of February being symbolic of love and friendship, it’s only fitting that we celebrate these sentiments at Trillium Montessori with our annual Valentine’s Day party! As a center that prides itself on its warm, friendly, and supportive environment, we believe that such celebrations foster an essential sense of community. We couldn’t be more excited to host this event for your children on February 14, 2025.

This year’s party will be an immerse-learning experience where children get to explore the meaning of love and friendship. Guided by our supportive and creative educators, your children will partake in numerous fun-filled activities that are not only enjoyable but also educational.

Your little ones will have the opportunity to craft handmade valentines, in tune with our STEAM approach. They’ll engage the finer muscles of their hands, exercise their creativity, and learn about expressing love. Plus, the joy on their faces when they share these tokens of affection with their friends will be a sight to cherish!

In addition to making valentines, we’ll be dedicating a special circle time to focus on the significance of love and how to express it. By creating a safe space for sincere conversation, children will be able to gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance and warmth of love and friendship.

As part of the celebration, we encourage parents to send in treats that their children could share with friends. What better way to teach them about sharing and caring?

On February 14th, the center will transform into an ambiance of love and warmth. Witness the center come to life expressing the magic of love, reminiscent of the nurturing and dedicated spirit of Trillium.

We’re eagerly looking forward to a day filled with sweetness, laughter, and love, a day that truly embodies the essence of Trillium Montessori’s community spirit.

Celebrating Groundhog’s Day the Trillium Way

We recently celebrated one of North America’s most charming traditions—Groundhog’s Day! A testament to our center’s vision of integrating cultural traditions with natural science concepts, this learning event was aimed at enabling our children to understand the essence of Groundhog’s Day and what it signifies in terms of weather patterns.

Groundhog’s Day holds a special place in our calendar as it serves as a gentle yet fulfilling introduction to the world of seasons and the effects of sunlight on these cute, little creatures we know as groundhogs.

At Trillium, we started the day off with a lively discussion, using visual aids to engage our curious learners. Through this interactive conversation, we were able to impart valuable knowledge about the day and what prognostic magic it holds for the winter season. Our educators, experts at fostering joy in learning, ensured the discussion was not merely a one-way transfer of knowledge, but that it encouraged each child’s thoughts, questions, and observations.

Next came the exciting project phase. Every child participated in creating their own groundhog craft, bringing their imaginative powers to play. This hands-on activity helped the children understand what groundhogs are, why they are associated with predicting seasonal changes, and allowed them to take home a piece of learning, proudly showcasing their masterpieces to their families.

Trillium Montessori is committed to providing authentic learning experiences that promote individual growth and lifelong learning. Encouraging curiosity through memorable moments like these forms the core of our teaching philosophy.

Hot and Cold Exploration: Trillium’s January Science Experiment

This month at Trillium Montessori, our young scientists were entranced by the spectacle of dancing molecules in our January science experiment. Each child was deeply involved and witnessed the fascinating effects of temperature on the movement of molecules.

The experiment? With a simple setup of hot and cold water and food coloring, the children explored the speed at which the food coloring spreads in both types of water. Our eagle-eyed learners were quick to note that the food coloring traveled faster in the hot water than the cold. This direct, visual experience offered a perfect introduction to foundational scientific concepts like temperature and molecular movement.

As part of our commitment to providing authentic Montessori experiences, we use opportunities like these to nurture your child’s natural curiosity and love for discovery. The experiment was a hands-on illustration of how real-life phenomena are grounded in scientific principles. For our inquisitive minds, this was more than just a science experiment; it was an adventure sparking curiosity about how heat influences the world around us.

The responses from the children were as diverse as their personalities. Some observed quietly, processing what they saw, while others excitedly pointed out their observations to their peers. Those are the moments we cherish at Trillium – when education is more than knowledge, evolving into an experience that encourages observation, critical thinking, and a sense of wonder.

As we moved from individual observation to group discussion, the children shared their understandings and questions about the experiment. Our teachers used the children’s observations and questions to create a wider conversation about how temperature affects our daily life — from how fast ice cream melts to why it feels warm when we rub our hands together.

This experiment made a lasting impression, sparking curiosity and conversations that thrive in our classrooms. It connected the children’s observations to the world around them, inspiring questions and fostering a deeper understanding of science. At Trillium, moments like these reflect our mission: helping children “Learn. Grow. Succeed.”

Igloo Builders in the Making: A Unique STEAM Project at Trillium Montessori

In the heart of Texas, a magical transformation took place at Trillium Montessori. Our remarkable students embarked on an extraordinary STEAM journey—building an igloo!

The adventure began with lots of excitement and curiosity. Each child was eager to learn about igloo construction, which matched perfectly with our mission to “Learn. Grow. Succeed.” This hands-on project helped them try new ideas, solve problems, and use their imaginations.

As the children learned how igloos are built, their faces lit up with excitement. They shaped ‘snow’ blocks and discovered how domes are strong structures. With help from our Montessori-certified teachers, the kids used their knowledge and creativity to make progress step by step.

Slowly, the igloos started to take shape. The children felt proud of every step they completed, and their confidence grew as they turned simple materials into amazing igloos. This activity was a perfect way to show how much they can accomplish with teamwork and effort.

This STEAM project also helped connect what the children learn in the classroom to the real world. They saw how their skills in different areas—like math and art—could work together in fun and practical ways. It was a great reminder that learning is a lifelong journey.

This STEAM project was an opportunity to push boundaries, explore possibilities, and ignite a passionate curiosity that drives our young learners towards lifelong success.

It’s a winter wonderland at Trillium Montessori this January!

Winter is a time of wonder. A switch flicks, and the world transforms. For young minds, the change to colder days brings about a flurry of questions and a thirst to understand.

At Trillium Montessori, we harness this natural curiosity by engaging our students in an exploration of winter. The chilly season became our classroom, and who knew learning could be so cool?

Throughout January, each day will reveal a brilliant mix of stories, songs, crafts, and discussions. Our aim is to blend learning with discovery — making the chilly season a warm, enriching experience for our young learners.

Daily story times will transport our children into wintry landscapes, fostering their listening skills while feeding their imaginations. Huddled like a cozy bunch of eskimos, the children listen to tales of snow-covered fields to narratives of cozy firesides. We will immerse our students in the magic and beauty of winter through the power of storytelling.

Songs have a quirky way of sticking in a child’s mind, making them a powerful tool for learning. Songs about snowmen, winter winds, and falling snowflakes will echo through our classrooms, making the learning process engaging and lively. As they hum their favorite tunes, our children will seamlessly be absorbing facts about the season.

Our arts and crafts sessions promise an exciting hands-on experience. Students will create their own winter masterpieces, exploring various textures, colors, and shapes. Activities include crafting intricate snowflakes, building frosty friends with “fluffy snow” (cotton balls), and even playing with the concept of melting and freezing using ice cubes.

Discussions about why it gets colder, why snowfall occurs, and why we bundle up in layers during winter are lined up too. Through these interactive sessions, we aim to lay a fundamental understanding of weather, climate, and geography.

At Trillium, we believe in making learning fun. The Winter Theme does exactly that – brings together education and joy, creating an environment that sparks curiosity and fuels their love for learning.

Parents, please feel invited to follow along and engage in conversations with your children about their learning journey throughout the month. Our doors are always open for any queries or feedback you might have. We’ll also be keeping you posted with updates and photos highlighting our winter-inspired activities and learning adventures.

This winter, hibernation goes out the window, and learning takes front stage at Trillium Montessori!

A Homegrown Holiday Celebration at Trillium Montessori

December was a time of joy and celebration at Trillium Montessori! As we wrapped up another wonderful year of learning and fun, we made sure to continue our holiday traditions and bring families closer together. This month, we focused on hands-on crafts, interactive storytelling, and a special activity where our children decorated their own miniature Christmas trees.

Each day in December was filled with holiday cheer. From creative crafts to lively storytelling sessions, our teachers made holiday tales come alive for the children.

The highlight of the month was watching the children decorate their miniature Christmas trees. Their eyes lit up as they picked out colorful ornaments, ribbons, and twinkling lights. With help from friends and teachers, they turned the tiny trees into beautiful displays of their imagination.

What made this activity so special was how unique each tree turned out, just like each child. It was a hands-on, creative experience that reflected our Montessori approach to learning—giving children the chance to explore, create, and express themselves.

This year, we’ve worked hard to combine the Montessori philosophy with learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM). Seeing the children enjoy decorating their trees was a perfect example of how we bring these ideas into everyday activities.

At Trillium Montessori, we believe that learning should be fun and full of discovery. Our dedicated teachers have done an amazing job creating an environment where every child feels supported and excited to learn.

To our families, thank you for being such an important part of this journey. Your trust and support mean so much to us. As we look forward to the new year, we can’t wait for more opportunities to learn, grow, and explore together.

From all of us at Trillium Montessori, we wish you a holiday season filled with joy, love, and peace. Happy holidays!

Science Activity: Dancing Cranberries

At Trillium Montessori, we love blending learning with hands-on fun. This December, our science activity, Dancing Cranberries, was a hit with our preschoolers!

The experiment is simple and perfect for young learners. Using carbonated water and dried cranberries, the children discovered the magic of bubbles and movement. It’s a fun way to explore concepts like density and carbonation—perfect for curious little minds.

The children carefully poured carbonated water into clear cups and added cranberries. Their excitement was palpable as they watched the cranberries rise and fall. The bubbles clung to the cranberries, lifting them up, and when the bubbles popped, the cranberries sank back down—a fascinating up-and-down dance!

Our Montessori-certified teachers guided discussions about what the children observed. We kept things interactive, asking questions like, “Why do you think the cranberries are moving?” This sparked conversations about buoyancy and bubbles, turning curiosity into understanding.

The best part? Watching their faces light up as the cranberries danced. Moments like these capture the essence of learning at Trillium—hands-on, joyful, and full of wonder.

At Trillium, we focus on activities that ignite curiosity and introduce new ideas in a fun, age-appropriate way. This experiment was another example of how we bring the Montessori philosophy to life, combining hands-on learning with a STEAM approach.

Dancing Cranberries was a science experiment that helped build inspired memories of curiosity and joy. This is what makes Trillium special: creating opportunities for kids to explore, learn, and have fun.

Building Reindeer Rafts

This month, Trillium Montessori was filled with laughter and excitement as our students worked on a fun and festive STEAM project: “Building Reindeer Rafts.”

Our classrooms came alive with holiday cheer as children explored Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) in a hands-on way. This activity wasn’t just a holiday craft – it reflected our commitment to personalized learning and helping every child grow in their own unique way.

The project encouraged kids to think, plan, and create independently, a key part of what we value at Trillium Montessori. From brainstorming ideas to building their rafts, the children showed creativity and problem-solving skills at every step.

The Reindeer Rafts combined creativity, practical thinking, and holiday fun. Our Montessori-trained teachers supported the children as they worked, offering guidance while letting each student explore their own ideas at their own pace.

Each child’s raft was unique, reflecting their interests and strengths. Some focused on decorating their rafts with colorful details, while others experimented to make their rafts float better. This activity highlighted how we tailor learning to fit each child.

We also kept parents involved, sharing updates, photos, and stories about the project. Families loved seeing their children’s enthusiasm and creativity extend beyond the classroom and into their homes.

Watching the children proudly launch their Reindeer Rafts was a true celebration of their hard work and creativity. This project is just one example of how Trillium Montessori creates a caring, personalized environment that helps children learn, grow, and succeed.

November Science Experiment

When was the last time you witnessed your child’s eyes widen with amazement by a science experiment? At Trillium Montessori, we believe that memorable moments of wonder are the force that drives lifelong learning. And that’s why science experiments, like the recent “Balloon Hovercraft Science Experiment” that took place in November, are crucial to our Montessori STEAM integrated curriculum.

As any one of our deeply committed educators would tell you, when children engage with hands-on, observational learning activities, they aren’t just understanding scientific principles. They’re also nurturing their sense of curiosity, problem-solving skills, and, more importantly, their independence.

During the Balloon Hovercraft Science Experiment, children got to explore the fascinating world of air pressure and friction.

The children began the experiment by attaching a plastic bottle cap with a small hole securely to the center of a smooth CD. Once they accomplished this using strong tape, they filled a balloon with air and secured its neck to prevent the air from escaping. With a little help from our supportive teachers, each child then stretched the balloon’s opening over the bottle cap, ensuring a snug fit without releasing the air. The real magic happened when the kids untwisted the balloon on a smooth surface. As the air escaped, it created a cushion that allowed the hovercraft to glide effortlessly across the table—the children’s expressions of awe were truly priceless.

The Balloon Hovercraft Science Experiment provided an opportunity for Trillium’s young learners to grasp the concept of how air pressure can reduce friction. This simple, yet fascinating exercise demonstrated the effects and principles of physics at play, fostering a deeper understanding through firsthand experience rather than mere theory. Moreover, aligning with the Montessori method, it encouraged self-directed activity, enhancing motor skills for our young learners.

To us at Trillium, it’s moments like seeing their eyes light up with fascination that make us believe in our mission statement—”Learn. Grow. Succeed”. We understand that each child has their unique learning style and pace, and we tailor our lessons to nurture each child’s curiosity, independence, and confidence, like we did with the Balloon Hovercraft Experiment.
