This will ensure our day is rich with meaning and context, allowing children to understand why we’re celebrating and how different cultural traditions are valued at Trillium.

Remember, each child should bring their own basket for the egg hunt!

See you there, Trillium families.

How Trillium Montessori Made Science Magical with the Water Cycle Project

This March, children at Trillium Montessori embarked on a month-long exploration of the water cycle—an interactive journey filled with discovery and creativity. The Water Cycle Project was designed to spark curiosity and foster a deep understanding of nature’s processes through hands-on learning experiences.

We transformed our classrooms into vibrant water learning stations featuring colorful water cycle visuals and activity centers. Our young scientists eagerly participated in experiments demonstrating evaporation and condensation. Their faces lit up with excitement as they watched the water move—an unforgettable moment!

One of the highlights of the project was creating water cycle diagrams. Children illustrated the life of a water droplet—evaporating from the sea, forming clouds, and returning to Earth as rain. Through this artistic challenge, they gained insight into how water sustains life.

Our teachers skillfully guided these activities, encouraging independent thinking and exploration—core components of our Learn. Grow. Succeed. mission. One special moment stood out when students shared their observations of the water cycle in real life. Their awe and wonder were evident as they made connections between classroom lessons and the natural world outside.

Storytime added an extra layer of magic. Children huddled together to listen to captivating tales about the water cycle, sparking their imaginations and deepening their understanding of environmental stewardship.

As spring blooms across Austin and Round Rock, we’re filled with gratitude for our families who partner with us to create joyful learning experiences. Stay tuned for more adventures from Trillium Montessori, where discovery knows no bounds and each child is inspired to Learn. Grow. Succeed.

Spring and Honey Bees

Throughout March, Trillium Montessori is opening children’s eyes to the wonder of seasonal change and the fascinating life cycle of honey bees. Our teachers inspire curiosity as they lead the children on a month-long journey through spring, highlighting new beginnings and growth.

Embracing our core value of hands-on learning and observation, the children are immersing themselves in nature. On nature walks, they observe the budding trees and blooming flowers that announce the arrival of spring. It’s exhilarating to see our little learners, from infants to Pre-K, engaging with the natural world around them.

Story times are filled with tales of spring and honey bees, captivating the children’s attention and sparking lively discussions. These narratives tie into our mission, “Learn. Grow. Succeed.,” emphasizing that spring symbolizes learning, growth, and new beginnings.

The children are creating diagrams of the honey bee’s life cycle, building bee puppets during art projects, and participating in a modeled pollination demonstration. One highlight activity is the creation of a visual timeline for the honey bee’s life cycle, which helps the children actively integrate their learning experiences.

Classrooms are adorned with spring-themed decorations, reflecting the freshness of the season. Art projects created by the children are displayed proudly, showcasing their growing understanding and appreciation of nature and honey bees.

We’re already noticing children sharing their observations with their families, bringing their newfound knowledge home. This enthusiasm is also encouraging more parent participation as they view their children’s spring and honey bee projects.

The Spring and Honey Bee theme reaffirms the power of hands-on, observational learning for children. By exploring the environment and understanding the vital role of creatures like bees, we are nurturing a generation that respects and values nature. This ongoing event brings us closer to our goal of building a community that values growth and environmental awareness.

We invite our families to continue witnessing and joining their child’s journey of discovery. Together, let’s “Learn. Grow. Succeed.” this spring at Trillium Montessori!

Build a Heart

Throughout February, the Trillium Montessori classrooms were ablaze with creativity and exploration. Our little builders, artists, and scientists gathered around tables fitted with a multitude of fascinating materials, their small fingers eager to start crafting.

Our event of the month, the “Build a Heart” project, sparked excitement and curiosity among our young learners. Satisfying our mission to “Learn. Grow. Succeed.”, this project drew on the innovative approach of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) integrated within the Montessori philosophy.

The hands-on nature of the task allowed our teachers to step back and encourage independence, in line with our core value of Individualized Learning. Children weren’t just given a template to follow. Instead, they were given a problem to solve: How would they construct a heart shape from the supplies provided: pipe cleaners, clay, or construction paper?

Some children carefully bent pipe cleaners into a heart outline. Others pressed their pieces of clay or construction paper, sculpting or cutting them into the desired shape. The whole process laid the foundation for basic engineering concepts and strengthened their fine motor skills while stoking their imagination—a perfect example of Trillium’s union of Montessori and STEAM education.

By inviting our children to engage in this creative building project, we emphasized our commitment to Lifelong Learning, one of our core values. This “Build a Heart” project was a reminder that education is a fun and exciting journey, not a destination. We believe that with the right guidance, every child can learn, grow, and succeed, just as our mission statement promises.

The children were thrilled with their creations and felt a strong sense of achievement that comes from seeing a project from concept to completion. Parents, it was heartwarming to see the delight in your child’s eyes as they proudly presented their unique heart-shaped creations. Their beaming faces showcased their confidence, another value we hold dear at Trillium.

We’re grateful for your continuous support and trust in Trillium Montessori’s approach. Together, we hope to continue creating enriching experiences that nurture your child’s Independence and instill a love for Lifelong Learning.

Exploring Science Through a Rainbow of Liquids!

At Trillium Montessori, we love creating hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and wonder! This week, our young scientists explored the concept of density through a fascinating activity that involved common household liquids like honey, corn syrup, colored water, oil, and dish soap. The result? A vibrant density column that captured their imaginations!

Here’s what we did:

Using clear containers, we carefully poured each liquid one at a time to create a layered rainbow. Each liquid settled into its own unique layer, creating a stunning visual effect. The children observed how the liquids didn’t mix and noticed how some layers were heavier and stayed at the bottom while others floated on top.

What We Learned:

This activity was beautiful, and  it taught the children about density, a key scientific principle. They discovered that different liquids have different weights and that’s why the layers formed. As they explored, we discussed how density affects things we see in the natural world, like oil spills or water and air interactions.

Why It Matters:

Activities like these align with our Montessori philosophy of learning through hands-on experiences. This experiment encouraged observation, critical thinking, and collaborative learning. Plus, it was a fantastic opportunity to introduce new vocabulary and concepts in a fun, accessible way.

Try It at Home!

This is an easy activity you can recreate with your child. Gather a few liquids, pour them slowly into a clear container, and watch the magic happen. Ask your child to describe what they see and predict what might happen next. It’s a wonderful way to extend the learning beyond the classroom!

We love watching our students light up with excitement as they make discoveries like these.
